Also known as the lesser Malefic or Misfortune, Mars’ nature is unsupportive to the growth and sustenance of human life, due to his hot, dry, and choleric qualities.

Esoterically, Mars represents our human volition. After we pass through the sphere of Saturn, where we are given our physical body and inherit our karma, we enter the sphere of Jupiter where we are gifted wisdom beyond our physical realities. We then enter the sphere of Mars where we bestowed grit, valor, and courage that is required to navigate the trials that is a common experience of a physical incarnation on earth. It is Mars that gives us the gallantry to fight back against a menacing threat, to stand up in the face of ridicule, and to push through in the midst of adversity.
It is Mars that activates our instinctual fight or flight mode.
The glyph of Mars is a great depiction of what Mars represents for us as incarnated souls. The circle in the Mars glyph represents the spirit which dwells within our physical bodies. The circle is whole, perfect, eternal just like the God-like consciousness that we all possess. Attached to the circle of divinity is an arrow which represents the act of exerting our divine agenda towards whatever we have our sights on. If you would like more information about the glyph of Mars, feel free to watch my mentor’s video.
If you consider Mars’ hot, dry, and choleric temperament, this is typically the energy we tap into when we feel passion, anger, enthusiasm, or rage. In medical astrology context, Mars rules the adrenal glands therefore anything that triggers our adrenaline is a Martian influence

Mars in the Natal Chart.
Whichever terrestrial house Mars is located signifies the area of life in which you have a fire under you to accomplish and carry out tasks associated with that house. Mars gives you the primal stamina to fulfill that urge. Another manifestation Mars may bring to a house is the propensity toward violence, accidents or the affiliation with anything (or anyone) that is hot, sharp or dangerous. The house where Mars is located can also be a house where Mars is asking us to be daring, courageous and gritty.
Mars' Essential Dignities
Mars' diurnal domicile is Aries. When Mars in Aries, Mars has the pure power and authority to express His agenda with no limitations. It is the ultimate energy of initiation. Aries being a fiery cardinal sign, provides Mars an open door policy to spark a flame anytime, anywhere. The downside to this is that although the initial spark is vast and intense, too often it can go away quickly. This is why when Mars in Aries, it is a great moment to initiate something that requires an immense head start.
Mars' nocturnal domicile is Scorpio. Scorpio is also the house of joy because it is in the same sect as Mars. When Mars is in Scorpio, the vital energy within the planet can sustain itself for longer periods of time. This is because Scorpio has a watery, fixed sign allows Mars to have stamina. Although the initial start may not be as explosive as Mars in Aries, Mars in Scorpio is great for those projects that require consistent action over time.
Mars is exalted in Capricorn. When you combine the fiery enthusiasm of Mars with the controlled, disciplined, and materially focused qualities of Capricorn. Capricorn is a earthy, cardinal sign, which provides a great framework for manufacturing. It is the fire of Mars that can be used to shape and transform earthly materials into finished goods. For example, the process of making charcoal is very ‘Mars in Capricorn’ because it entails the cutting and burning (Mars) of wood or other organic matter (Capricorn) to create a resource that can be used for many purposes such as cooking and heating. Other examples include, pottery, woodworking, and iron smithing.
Martian People

Martian people are those with Aries or Scorpio rising. Mars in the first house, and Mars in aspect to the ascendant. The typical Martian individual is a fighter at heart. The spirit does not shy away from a brawl; conflict is not avoided — rather it is welcomed. Why? Because, conflict is the medium that allows Martians to unleash active energy. It is important for Martians to be consciously aware of how this energy shows up and to replace it (if necessary) with a more productive use of the vital energy.
Martian people are driven & action oriented and always motivated to achieve. They are always willing to take risks and be on the front lines. However, this willingness to take risks could manifest negatively, where sometimes they may act hasty, irrational, and at times reckless.Sometimes this urge to take action may cloud them from acting upon something worthy of their time, effort, and vitality.
A Martian’s vitality is like gold to them.
Martians are often very active because they feel as though if they are not on the move or facing the next antagonist, they will die —yes you read that right. But to be less dramatic, in the eyes of a Martian, stagnation and inhibition is death. It is like cutting the source of the flame and there is only smoke left. Their vitality is part of their purpose. This is why many Martian people find themselves in career that rely upon the ability to act and act with valor and precision.
Finally, those with significant Martian qualities, it can sometimes be difficult to level with them.
Once they are triggered into action, the best thing to do is join them or get out of their way.
These are the type of people you want when heavy lifting is needed. They make great police officers, soldiers, athletes but also blacksmiths, martial artists, etc. Like mentioned earlier, these individuals must have an outlet for their energy otherwise they may find themselves exploding, becoming aggressive or deadly. Finding hobbies that fulfill the primal need to exert their innate, primal drive will allow for them to think rationally and know when to use their powerful energy.
Does this sound like someone in your life? Please share in the comments. Remember to thank the Martian in you life for showing you how to be brave.
Much love and gratitude to Source and you.
